What We Do

Tell Me More About PTA Sponsored Events at Morris Grove

Even though things may look a bit different this year, we are working very hard to keep our traditions and opportunities going strong wherever possible!

Kindergarten Orientation / Meet the Teacher Night Support – The PTA provides ice pops and other treats for events such as these. We also provide staffing support to teachers and staff.

Geckopalooza - A fun family event that brings our Gecko community together! We have a DJ, Food Trucks, and games. This event is a great opportunity to spend time with old Gecko friends and to meet new ones! This year we will be having a Pep Rally drive by in lieu of our in-person festival. We will focus on raising funds to support our school and programs, as well as cheering on our teachers and showing our Gecko Pride!

Book Fair – (held in November) allows families to purchase books for their home libraries. This will be online this year!

School Pictures and Yearbooks – Fall (October) and Spring (March) school pictures will be taken. In the Spring, class pictures will be taken as well. And, a school yearbook is published annually.

Geckowear (School Spirit wear) – Show your school pride and purchase Morris Grove logo items. Certain Geckowear items are available for sale throughout the year (cups, magnets, and some of our tshirts) and specific clothing items will need to be pre-ordered. Order forms will be provided.

Read-a-thon – (January) A school-wide two week literacy awareness campaign and fundraiser. All students are provided with a reading log to record their minutes read and encouraged to collect pledges from family members and friends. All funds raised through the read-a-thon go into the general PTA fund.

Cultural Arts Performances – (throughout the school year), the PTA contracts with the ArtsCenter to have in-school performances for the students. (Some virtual experiences are being considered for this year)

School Spirit & Fundraiser Events – (throughout the school year), the PTA will sponsor several events either on our own or through the help of a local business to bring our Gecko community together outside of normal school hours. This may include a restaurant “Spirit Night” or Game Night at MGE. More details to come.

Durham Bulls Night - (Late Spring) Morris Grove heads to the ballpark one night in the Spring and families will have an opportunity to help our PTA fundraising efforts through the purchase of tickets to this game or even games later in the season. We all sit in the same section and MGE will be acknowledged on the scoreboard.

After-School Enrichment - Extracurricular activities offered to students for a small fee. The PTA coordinates Math Olympiad (4th/5th grade students). The school administration and staff also support on site enrichment activities such as: Play-well Tek Lego class, Chess Club and Girls on the Run. Watch your GeckoEcho (Friday backpack mail) for additional details.

Teacher Luncheons – Hosted by the PTA for special events during the year as a way of saying “thank you” to the teachers. Donations from the Morris Grove community have made these treats a highlight for our teachers and staff.

Teacher Appreciation Week – (Late Spring), The PTA organizes a “pep rally” week for our teachers as a way of say “thank you.” Previous celebrations have included: writing thank you notes, wearing geckowear, and participating in a “teacher parade” to greet them upon their morning arrival.

Spring Fling – (Late April – SIGNATURE EVENT), This is one of our largest PTA fundraisers and one that is highly anticipated for students, parents, and teachers. Spring Fling is an evening event that includes food, games, a student/teacher raffle and a highly anticipated silent auction. (This event has shifted to our Geckopalooza Fall Fundraiser this year due to Covid restrictions and current school fundraising needs).

“Easy Fundraisers” – In addition to the fundraisers noted above, Morris Grove PTA participates in the Harris Teeter VIC card, Scrip Gift Card and the Amazon Smile Fundraiser programs. Additionally, clip and save your Box Tops for Education, as those are also processed for money and goods.
